Overview

The Proposal Manager leads, manages, and writes key new business proposals and presentations. This role partners closely with business leaders and subject matter experts to develop tailored, highimpact pursuit materials that address clients’ unique needs, articulate our integrated real estate solutions, and clearly differentiate Avison Young—ultimately helping improve win rates. The Proposal Manager also collaborates with design and marketing teams to elevate deliverables, producing creative, visually compelling, and persuasive proposal packages.

 

The ideal candidate has experience developing, writing, and project managing multi–service line pursuits across multiple markets and regions, with the ability to navigate technically complex proposals and presentations. Experience in project management, consulting, and/or commercial real estate is a strong asset.

 

The base salary is aligned with market data and is estimated to be between $90,000 to $110,000 with the ability to achieve additional compensation through a bonus. This salary range reflects base compensation for the position across all Canadian locations. Within this range, individual pay is determined by work location and other factors, including relevant education/training, experience, and internal equity. This posting is for an existing vacancy withing our organization.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the full proposal lifecycle—from RFx release through final submission.
  • Provide both strategic and tactical guidance by collaborating with leaders, subject matter experts, and sales professionals to identify proposal strategies, content direction, design approach, and clear win themes.
  • Support the go/nogo process to prioritize opportunities; maintain a pipeline of highpriority and target pursuits.
  • Develop proposal and presentation content through original, engaging writing that communicates Avison Young’s services, insights, and value proposition.
  • Coordinate the proposal team by clearly outlining next steps, deliverables, and deadlines for leaders, sales teams, subject matter experts, designers, marketers, and coordinators.
  • Uphold strong quality control standards to ensure compliance, accuracy, and the delivery of polished and compelling work.
  • Perform or oversee advanced formatting and visual enhancement of documents and presentations.
  • Conduct internal and external debriefs following submissions to analyze win/loss outcomes and identify areas for improvement.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements and best practices to strengthen proposal quality and increase win rates.
  • Collaborate with communications teams to promote business wins and secure visibility across appropriate channels and media, where applicable.
  • Maintain a bestinclass internal library of proposal content, case studies, resumes, and pitch materials organized by project type and client scenario.
  • Partner with marketing colleagues to share insights, data, content, and best practices.
  • Ensure all deliverables meet the highest standards of spelling, grammar, syntax, clarity, and style.

Qualifications

  • 5–7 years of experience in a business environment, with proposal management and business development writing experience required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to partner effectively with professionals at all levels and facilitate strategic discussions within pursuit teams.
  • Excellent project management abilities, including managing multiple projects, schedules, and priorities simultaneously.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and documentmanagement capabilities, plus experience coordinating with design, writing, and other creative resources to deliver compelling proposals.
  • Advanced proofreading and editing skills.
  • Ability to articulate ideas, recommendations, and technical information clearly and concisely.
  • Demonstrated maturity, initiative, and problemsolving skills that help build trust and establish leadership within the proposal process.
  • Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a team.
  • Comfortable managing shifting priorities and meeting deadlines under tight timelines.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office required; familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud or graphic design is an asset.
  • University degree or equivalent in English, Journalism, Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
