Overview

The Avison Young Vancouver office is seeking a Financial Analyst to support a high-performing industrial and capital markets team. Apart from the team’s industrial leasing and project marketing mandates, the team regularly executes on high-profile capital markets mandates, including asset, land, and portfolio dispositions and acquisitions, portfolio management advisory, partnership structuring and capital raising, development project advisory, and quantitative economic research. They have completed some of the largest industrial investment transactions in the history of Western Canada, and their clients include the most prominent industry players, from regional and national development firms to institutional asset managers to public sector entities and prominent entrepreneurs.

 

This is a unique opportunity to join an established and evolving team, for an ambitious and motivated individual with both technical and interpersonal skills, to develop their career into a high-performing capital markets advisor.

 

The base salary is aligned with market data and is estimated between $50,000 to $60,000 with the ability to achieve additional compensation through a commission. Within this range, individual pay is determined by work location and other factors, including relevant education/training, experience, and internal equity.

Responsibilities

  • Financial modelling, including discounted cash flow analysis and land residual analysis of income-producing and development properties.
  • Research of real estate market trends and comparable transaction data, with preparation of quantitative datasets, forecasts, visuals, and presentation materials.
  • Transaction due diligence and holistic evaluation of investment opportunities, including reviews of leases, financial statements, and other property documentation.
  • Assisting deal team(s) with transaction structuring, and providing thoughtful, empirically driven considerations of transaction risks and opportunities to the firm’s clients.
  • Managing the preparation of transaction and marketing documentation, including liaising with senior team members and delegation of departmental work to relevant groups within the firm, while prioritizing duties and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Client coordination and involvement in pitches, negotiations, and regular transaction correspondence.
  • In-depth macroeconomic research, to be used within financial analyses and economic summaries and forecasts to be distributed to the firm’s clientele.
  • Maintaining awareness of local, national, and global economic and geopolitical trends, with a focus on how such trends impact the overall capital markets and the Canadian commercial real estate sector.
  • Identifying new business opportunities and potential business risks.
  • Other ad hoc analyses and administrative tasks as may be required from time-to-time.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree, with a focus in business/commerce, real estate, finance, or economics, and a strong record of academic achievement.
  • Relevant industry experience in a sell-side or buy-side capacity, including, but not limited to, commercial real estate investment, finance, investment sales, development, appraisal, or consulting is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of financial modelling and real estate valuation fundamentals.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, with knowledge of Argus considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated quantitative skills acquired from a combination of education and work experience.
  • Interest in macroeconomics and capital markets.
  • Motivated team player, with the ability to work in a fast-paced, demanding environment while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Strong multi-tasker with time management and prioritization skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to summarize quantitative information into understandable communications.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to produce accurate deliverables with minimal oversight.
